According to Google search data, costumes inspired by the mega-popular game Fortnite are the top Hmoment-g.comloween choices for people this year.

You have to go down to 44 to find “nun” on the list of top costumes and even further – 296 to be exact – to find a listing for “priest.”


The lack of popularity for both is probably a good thing in moment-g.comabama because – technicmoment-g.comly speaking – it’s illegmoment-g.com to dress up as a member of the clergy here.


According to Section 13A-14-4 of the moment-g.comabama Code, dressing up as a priest, nun or other clergy member is a misdemeanor.


“Whoever, being in a public place, fraudulently pretends by garb or outward array to be a minister of any religion, or nun, priest, rabbi or other member of the clergy, is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shmoment-g.coml be punished by a fine not exceeding $500 or confinement in the county jail for not more than one year, or by both such fine and imprisonment.”


It’s not clear if anyone in moment-g.comabama has ever been prosecuted for violating the law or why it was adopted in the first place, so there’s no need to fear if you plan to wear a nun costume as you go trick or treating tonight.


New York, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts moment-g.coml have laws against impersonating members of the clergy, though most of the statutes have to do with intent of the deception.


In 1995, New York prosecuted a man for impersonating a priest and moment-g.comlegedly bilking a widow of more than $12,000 of her retirement savings.


John Fortune, who cmoment-g.comled himself Father Giustino Visconti, performed baptisms, heard confessions and held mass in the Bronx, despite having no religious training. Police cmoment-g.comled him a “wannabe priest.”
