Despite Honda"s reputation for reliability, certain Honda Accord models also have a tendency to experience security system malfunctions. This can be quite problematic when the alarm randomly goes off at four in the morning, waking up your family and your neighbors. Fortunately, you can adjust the sensitivity or disable the factory security system yourself, and put a stop to the ongoing racket. If you"re uncomfortable playing with wires, find a reputable shop that can get the job done, but also expect to pay a pretty penny. Here"s a DIY guide to successfully disable your alarm.
Adjusting the SensitivityStep 1 – Adjust the settings
If you don"t want to completely disable the security system, you can adjust the system with a flat head screwdriver. Underneath the driver"s side dashboard is a control unit for the security system. There you can lower the sensitivity by adjusting the knob to your preferred setting. Do not set the sensitivity too low or the alarm may not activate at all—even if the glass breaks.
Disabling the Factory Security SystemStep 1 – Disconnect the wire harness
To completely disable the factory security system, simply disconnect the harness that powers it. A green, two-pin plug is located by the hood latch, and it is attached to the grille by six screws. Pull the latch on the plug and slide the two-wire bundle out.
Strip the rubber or plastic insulators from both ends of the wire, and then push each end into the female slots of the wire harness. Use a plastic zip tie to fasten the connector to the frame or completely remove the connector by removing the six screws holding it in place.
