Hey all ns guess this isn"t exactly the ideal forum because that this question, yet I figure it"s premise must apply.. Anyway. Someone provided me a collection of these baby monitors, no idea wherein they gained them from, brand new but a pair years old. Anyways every little thing works OK other than one that the power cords is 6vDC and appears to it is in busted. We"re kinda strapped appropriate now, therefore I"m make the efforts to do something occupational that i found approximately the house. I have this 12vDC adapter the was to an old understanding helicopter charger. Anyways i plugged it up, seems to work-related fine, nothings running hot or anything. However prior to I chalk this increase in the win coulmn I believed I"d asking if this is long term solution. I"d hate for it come burst right into flames and also catch my newborn daughter"s crib on fire, ya know. Thoughts?

Would an exterior resistor run the same expense as purchase a 6v strength plug? Or room you talking around cracking open up the plug base and also soldering a resistor right into it?
Hmm I can have been implying just cutting a few wires and also botching in a resistor and seeing that it"s a infant monitor probably that idea wasn"t very good...Check come see just how much a 6V plug is, if it"s come expensive simply buy a resistor and also a pack of duct tape to ensure no-one can touch the exposed wire?

If it works v no difficulties now, you must be fine. Countless devices that run on DC save on computer a component referred to as a zener diode in the circuit whereby it receive the power. Zener diodes essentially behaves together a change resistor, but only when a certain voltage is used to it. It does have a best resistance the it will will reach, and a break down voltage. In your case, the zener voltage in her hardware is most likely 6v and also it"s max impedance is 6 Ohms or more. As long as your machine does not exceed the zener"s maximum strength handling, girlfriend should have actually no problems. However, if you use 12v come the maker for a long period of time, the could, in theory, "burn in" that resistance in that zener and also if you execute switch come a reduced output DC adapter, you could have concerns due to under-powering.You have the right to buy a power adapter relatively cheap from many places. I bought one from Radioshack awhile ago that has actually a move on it allowing me to vary the voltage in between several different voltages between 1.5v - 3.3v - 6v -12v. The was just like $15. Simply solder on the connector native one the fits if the one you buy doesn"t fit.
